THE LIVING ROSARY
Venerable
Pauline-Marie Jaricot
Pauline explains: "A thought was obsessing me: how to succeed at convincing people to love the Rosary which had become a leisure only for old people and a few pious persons. In fact, this devotion has become for the majority of Christians an outdated one. The beads seem too long a prayer and to accompany this prayer with meditation of the mysteries is unthinkable in the mind of the majority of men.
"Another evil which is keenly felt is the isolation of each good soul who by social convenience is doing his own devotion and often abstaining from prayer altogether. The individual devotion of these isolated souls is a spark without the influence of a flame in the middle of the darkness.
"What is necessary for the good of all ? With strong and determined effort and much prayer I looked for a way to utilize the strength of these few isolated souls and enable them to effect their spiritual vigor upon those more spiritually impoverished. In a word, to find a means for them to inject their spiritual remedy drop by drop into the souls of others as spiritual medicine.
"For this reason , I begged God to put at the reach of everyone the devotion of the Rosary. I did consider the immense good and efficacious effect of the Rosary for souls by the simple meditation of the Mysteries, which sum up the whole Faith, and asked God to inspire me with the easiest means to inject this devotion into the lives of the faithful.
"This is the aim of my goal, and reflecting to discover the best means in the simple light of faith, determined that it was wise to make the good souls better, but also that this devotion would render to languishing souls spiritual health.
"The need of union in order to give more efficacy to the prayer and to make easier the efforts of charity, gave me the suggestion to reduce the Rosary into fifteen parts. This devotion divided into fifteen parts but united, would daily offer a complete crown to the august Virgin Mary. As each mystery of Our Lord is not of infinite price; it is important for each person to get this reach treasure in order to satisfy Divine Justice and, by so doing, to obtain the conversion of sinners, the preservation of the faith in our own country and its propagation throughout the whole universe, and the exaltation of Holy Mother the Church."
