NOVENA TO SAINT PHILOMENA
A Novena or a "Nine-day prayer" honoring Saint Philomena is not restricted to any set form of prayer. Many Approved novenas are available. Any Prayer for petition or thanksgiving that is said for nine consecutive days constitutes the novena.
We are inviting you to join the Novena to Saint Philomena, "Patroness of the Living Rosary" at Santuario de Santa Philomena, Most Holy Redeemer Parish, Del Monte Avenue, Malac Street, Masambong 1115, Quezon City, Philippines, Every Friday at 6:00 p.m. and dZME 1530 AM band every Sunday 7:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
THE HOLY OIL OF ST. PHILOMENA
The use of oil for anointing is an apostolic injunction. From tile Jewish primitive Church it has stood for strength, sweetness, and spiritual activity. Pure olive oil is used for the Oil of Catechumens and the Oil of the Sick. It is also an ingredient of Holy Chrism. Olive oil is prescribed to be burned in sanctuary lamps.
Frequently, oil burned at the Shrine of St. Philomena has restored sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, speech to the inarticulate, and the power of using lifeless limbs. , The blessing of the Oil of Saint Philomena takes place annually on the feast of her patronage. The second Sunday in January. We could go out and buy gallons of pure olive oil for this annual blessing. but with all rituals of Holy Mother the Church. there is great symbolism involved. It is you. the devotee. who should mail to us your donation and confidence in Saint Philomena. Only a priest. who has been given the special faculties for this blessing from the Rector of the Shrine in Mugnano. Italy. can bless this Holy Oil and it rests before the relic and statue of St. Philomena at the Shrine in the Church for 15 days. Saint Philomena will animate it with the breath of living faith. Representative of the Living Rosary Family and that of the National Confraternity of St. Philomena. we mail a can or bottle of pure olive oil to the Sanctuary in Mugnano to be blessed on this occasion. During the year. the oil mailed IN YOUR NAME will burn before the relic of St. Philomena. Small amounts of this specially Blessed Oil are mailed all over the world during the year and have been the vehicle of many spiritual conversions and physical cures. We DO NOT return the cans or bottles of oil mailed to us. The oil will burn at the Shrine in your name for your intentions. Please do your part so that there will be sufficient oil to keep the lamp burning during the year at the Shrine and adequate amounts for mailing to those wishing to have it for the sick and suffering throughout the world. One day, YOU may need this precious oil.

THE CHAPLET OF ST. PHILOMENA
The CHAPLET OF ST. PHILOMENA consist of thirteen small red beads and three large white beads with a crucifix and a medal of St. Philomena attached. The small red beads are symbolic. Thirteen refers to the age of the girl and the red color connotes martyrdom. Three white beads symbolize purity. Three refers to the Blessed Trinity.
The Apostle's Creed is said on the crucifix to beg the gift of faith. An Our Father is said on each three white beads. On each of the red small beads, the following prayers are said:
Hail, o holy Saint Philomena, whom I acknowledge, after Mary as my advocate with thy Divine Spouse, intercede for me now, and at the hour of my death. Saint Philomena, beloved daughter of Jesus and Mary, pray for us who have recourse to thee, Amen.
On the medal say:
Hail, O illustrious St. Philomena, thou who courageously shed thy blood for Jesus Christ! I bless the Lord for all the graces He has bestowed upon thee during thy life, and especially at thy death. I praise and glorify Him for the honor and power with which He has crowned thee, and I beg thee to obtain for me, from God the graces I ask through thine intercession.Amen.

THE CORD OF ST. PHILOMENA
The Cord of St. Philomena has been the instrument of innumerable favors. It is used by the sick and is a protection against accidents and evils of every kind. The Cord is worn, around the waist under one's clothes, especially as a safeguard of the, virtue of chastity according to one's state of life.
Christians of our days, inundated with naturalism, do not understand the value of this simple cord and the power it has to cure those who weal" it of the diseases of soul and body" They do not understand the power the Church possesses to communicate graces through the simplest elements" A simple cord cannot give us any help in the order of grace, no more than in the order of nature. But when the cord is sanctified with holy water, united by liturgical prayers, it is made to change from the order of the profane to the sacred order. It is wrong to criticize or refuse this good practice. The Cord of St. Philomena is an observance of faith and an example of prayer.
This devotion has the following motives:
a. To obtain the intercession of St. Philomena in preserving the virtue of chastity according to one's state of life.
b. To fight the growing disbelief and penetrate the spirit of faith.
c. To demonstrate a love of St. Philomena and thereby deserve her special protection from diseases of soul and body.
After you have received the Cord of St. Philomena, wear it with devotion. It may also be placed under your pillow, over your door, or in your wallet or purse. Like the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, the Cord of St. Philomena is washable.
You. religious, know that the Cord of St. Philomena ,will guard the most precious treasure of your virginity. defend you against the enemy. And preserve you from the corruption of the world so that someday you will appear sinless before the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Christian mothers, consecrate your children to St. Philomena on the fountains of baptism and place on them her Cord to preserve their innocence. Poor Sick, have faith also in the power of this Wonder-worker by wearing her Cord and, if it is God's Will, you will obtain health of soul and body.
