Testimonials to St. Philomena
OBLIGATIONS OF EACH MEMBER
1. To wear the Cord of St. Philomena as a cincture under one's clothing or carry it around. The Cord must be
blessed by the rector of the sanctuary or a priest authorized by the rector.
2. To know the life of St. Philomena and encourage others to do the same.
3. To recite daily the Chaplet of St. Philomena.
4. To attend Holy Mass and receive Holy Communion on January 10 (Nativity of St. Philomena), May 25 (Finding of
her relics), August 10 (her martyrdom), and August 11 (her feast day).
5. To give annual donation according to one's means.
PRIVILEGES TO EACH MEMBER
1. Holy Mass will be celebrated every second Friday of the month for members, both living and departed.
2. Members will benefit from all the prayers offered at the sanctuary.
3. Members who wear the Cord of St. Philomena* will gain a plenary indulgence** on January 10, May 25, August 10,
and August 11.
4. A plenary indulgence** can be gained at the hour of death:
a. provided one invokes the Name of Jesus with one's lips or heart
b. when due to a grave reason, one is unable to go to Confession or receive Holy Communion provided the person is repentant.
* On December 5, 1883 Pope Leo XIII approved the Cord of St. Philomena and gave special privileges and indulgences to all who wear it.
** To gain a plenary indulgence, we must fulfill the conditions laid down by the Church: Confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father.
